As Summer draws to close ( despite London hitting a record 29 degrees in October) it's back to some serious work for most returning to the City to face a busy Fall. Our Summer, however, has been spent developing our wonderful collaboration between The Sorority and Keep a Child Alive with the fabulous Alicia Keys.

Though supportive of fundraising parties and events, it has always been a personal mission of mine to contribute towards a meaningful enterprise with a long term view.

The Chinese have a proverb; Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he will eat for life.

I have always believed in the power of people; the collective influence we all have as individuals and as a group to mobilse change and shape the world we live in.

We are putting this to the test.

Our women's members club The Sorority is proud to be developing a collaboration this year with Keep a Child Alive that will empower women in Africa and India to end the cycle of poverty.

The Sorority’s collaboration with Keep a Child Alive, co-founded by Alica Keys and Leigh Blake, has a universal mission to harness the collaborative power of successful professional women to empower women in the developing world.

Leading thinkers in social development, including the world bank, hail investing in women as “smart economics,” an untapped resource that can help solve many of the problems we see in our world today.

Investing in women produces a positive ripple effect of improved health, education, and welfare for all household members.

More than 70% of people who live below the poverty line are women.

Many of us have had the privilege of benefiting from opportunities and support that have been denied to these women.

It is my hope that we can combine our expertise, influence and strength from our successes to empower others.

There is a wonderful sense of occasion when the stylish London set emerge for the most glamorous street party in town. Bond Street and neighbouring areas came alive as boutiques hosted individual parties featuring live musical performances and special events attracting families and fashionistas alike. It is a genuine pleasure to see such a spectacle on what is ordinarily a luxury retail destination and one of the reasons why I love London. As the cocktails flowed visitors could take a chance at winning a Hermes Bangle at the Bangle Bowling Trailer.

With queues around the block it was a highlight for many this evening. As for me, I joined the eclectic crowds at Louis Vuitton, including Vogue's Editor in Chief Alexandra Shulman, in admiring the fetching balloon puppies. Can't wait for next year.

Roland Mouret hosted a Bastille Day reception last night with Quintessentially Gifts at his newly launched Mayfair Maison in Carlos Place, opposite the Connaught Hotel.
Scarlett Johansson, Dita Von Teese, Victoria Beckham, Cameron Diaz and Rachel Weisz have all queued up to own one of Mouret’s iconic Galaxy dresses and now Mouret’s next fashionable chapter starts in W1.

The new flagship store is a six-storey dream with its 19th Century charm forming an idyllic stage for Mouret’s creations, created exclusively for his London clientele in the atelier above the store.

Mouret’s three classic dresses, the Galaxy, the Moon and Pigalle dresses have been reworked for this store – and the line has also expanded to include cashmere and sunglasses.
The Sorority members and I enjoyed refreshing cocktails as we caught up with Roland who complimented my three month old son’s fashionable ensemble. Baby Mouret anyone?

Tutu Time!

It was a delightful sunny setting for the English National Ballet’s inaugral Summer Party held at Kensington Palace Orangery. The cream of the British Fashion scene had rolled up (plus the odd Rolling Stone or two) to a serene gathering on a stunning summer evening. Welcomed by Nadia Swarovski, guests had gathered that evening as part of a fundraising auction for English National Ballet.

Several designer tutus and accessories were being silently auctioned that night with couture creations by Moshino, Giles Deacon, Erdem, Roksanda Ilincic and Sorority sister Beatrix Ong.

Christian Louboutin produced a pair of eight-inch Swarovski-encrusted heels based on the ballet shoe.

The auction hopes to raise over £50,000 for the ENB following the Arts Council’s decision to cut its grant by around £2 million and was attended by guests including Prince Andrew, Duran Duran’s Nick Rhodes and Ronnie Wood.

Alicia Keys is a superwoman. A champion for female empowerment and mother to baby Egypt, she is a light-bearing force and an incredibly talented musician to boot.

I introduced her to my 9 week old son Oscar at dinner at Mews of Mayfair this week, the night before her Black Ball fundraising extravaganza. We are in the process of developing a project together and her foundation Keep a Child Alive, which provides support and lifesaving medication for HIV/AIDS sufferers in Africa and Indian.

I am a huge admirer and fan of Leigh Blake- the Founder and President of Keep a Child Alive. A true force to be reckoned with, she has devoted her life to the poor, and her mission is simply awe-inspiring. Since starting the foundation in 2001, their programmes have served over 300,000 individuals and their families.

The glamorous and the good gathered for the fabulous Black Ball at Camden's Roundhouse.

Hosted by Alicia Keys and Mark Ronson, guests were treated to exceptional performances from Tinie Tempah, Paloma Faith, George Michael and Beth Ditto.

The evening finale culminated in Alicia taking to the stage with Paloma Faith and Beth Ditto to sing an all female rendition of George Michael’s ‘Freedom’. George had been due to perform himself but had to pull out last minute because of a tooth infection which sent waves throughout the Twittersphere when Alicia tweeted during the after-party “One question…who would bail on 15 million orphans? George Michael…”

For me, the highlight of the evening was hearing the first hand accounts from Carol Dyantyi. She witnessed the hardship of children left to fend for themselves and their siblings, and knew her life’s mission was to take action. There are now over 2000 orphans under Carol’s care in Soweto, South Africa.

These moving stories are the roots of the work Keep a Child Alive undertakes, and as President and Founder Leigh Blake told us last night “what we do today defines who are are tomorrow. Our life is our message…”

We can all make a difference – what will you do today?

Dazzling Diamonds with Harry Winston

All ladies love a bit of bling and what better way to indulge in our magpie tendencies than to spend an evening surrounded by some of the most beautiful gems in the world.

Harry Winston, a name synonymous with Hollywood starlets and glamour, hosted a diamond reception with The Sorority in their private salon in Mayfair, London.

Sorority guests were treated to the unveiling of the Lily Cluster collection whilst Managing Director Dennis O'Connor introduced the glittering world of Harry Winston, that counts legendary stars such as Elizabeth Taylor amongst their discerning fans.

One of the most well known jewels in Winston's collection was the Hope Diamond; a 45.52 carat deep blue diamond which Winston donated to the Smithsonian Museum of National History in 1958.

In 2010, the Hope Diamond was unveiled and put on public display at the Smithsonian Museum in a temporary newly designed necklace called "Embracing Hope," created by the Harry Winston.

Despite the Hope Diamond being housed in the US, we had the privilege of experiencing some truly stunning pieces including a 40 carat yellow diamond ring (£2.5million) and several dazzling necklaces (£2million) which we were invited to try on. This is taking "playing dress up" to a whole other level...

Sorority members enjoyed champagne and canapes as we enjoyed the stunning craftmanship and design of the Harry Winston collections. Enjoyed a tremendously inspiring evening at the Asian Women of Achievement Awards celebrating pioneering Asian women. Set in the glittering Hilton ballroom, 600 bejewelled guests gathered to pay tribute to the nominees, all of who had overcome personal challenges and achieved professional milestones.

Kamal Basran, who had always had an interest in ethnic food, set up her own food business in 1985 with two part time staff. Twenty-five years later, The Authentic Food Company has 230 employees, boasts a £31m turnover, and runs its own factory. She was awarded Entrepreneur of the Year, presented by James Caan.

Other guests included Home Secretary Thresea May, wife of deputy prime minister, Miriam Clegg and Nicole Farhi.

Susan Ann Davis, Chairman of Vital Voices, left the audience with a poignant message in the words of Hilary Clinton; forget about China, forget about India, forget about the internet, women are the new market.

With the calibre of women present in the room that evening, there is no doubt about it.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Baroness Floella Benjamin OBE as our guest of honour as we ushered in a group of inspiring professional women for an evening of inspiration and empowerment.

The beautiful shooting gallery in the Haymarket Hotel was transformed into a glowing tea room laced with plush bunnies sitting in tea cups. There was even a surprise operatic performance. I was overwhelmed by the strength, kindness and support that was shared that evening and had a truly special night.

Sorority Wisdom : Celebrating Business and Babies

Preparing for The Sorority B&B Shower

Our studio is invaded with Hyacinths in preparation of The Sorority B&B Shower.

It's been a busy few months since the start of 2011 and a whirlwind of activity.

I am expecting my first child in March and my fellow Sorority sisters decided to throw me the mother of all Baby Showers. I agreed on one condition - that the occasion would be a celebration of all women who balance business and babies.

We are delighted to have Baroness Floella Benjamin OBE as our guest of honour at the occasion.

Many women have walked this path already, whilst for some, it remains a mystery.

I certainly know what that feels like.

The experience has been one of much change, but most of all, I was overwhelmed by the encouragement, support and kindness that was volunteered by the women in my life.

Whether we are parents or not, we can all appreciate the balance required for business and babies.

Our studio has been busy preparing for the event (we had hundreds of Cerise Hyacinths invading our space - see above!) and am greatly looking forward to the event.

To celebrate International Women's Day and the forthcoming Mothers Day, we will be releasing a special online edition of Sorority Wisdom later in March which will celebrate business and babies including interviews with our members on how they balance their lives as well as key tips every working mother should know.

It's such a pleasure to be supporting SEE CHANGE, a new charitable foundation launching in January 2011 with the sole mission to unite the Arts and Giving.

Founded by Sorority Member Kathryn Greig, SEE CHANGE aims to harness the power of imagery and the spoken word to encourage debate and inspire charitable-giving. Through a range of events including film screening, dramatic performances, readings and art exhibitions See Change will use compelling narrative to change perceptions, inform communities and mobilize support for a variety causes.

See Change is hosting its launch in January 2011 with a celebration in honour of Kate Winslet and The Golden Hat Foundation including the screening of the documentary "A Mother's Courage" followed by a discussion hosted by Kate herself.

All proceeds will go the Kate's charity, The Golden Hat Foundation.

Loomba Foundation : British Indian Diamond Jubilee Banquet at The Guildhall

The British Indian Diamond Jubilee Banquet was hosted by the Loomba Foundation at the prestigious Guildhall in London on Friday 29th October 2010. The purpose of this banquet was to celebrate the 60th anniversary of India’s Republic and Diwali.

Over 450 high profile guests including senior politicians, diplomats, celebrities and business leaders from both the Indian and British communities in London were invited to thiis special occasion hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

A special message from the trust's Patron Cherie Blair was delivered whilst the famous Bollywood actress, Preity Zinta, travelled from Mumbai especially to support the work of the Loomba Foundation.

Accredited by the United Nations in 2008, the Loomba Foundation is educating over 3,000 children of poor widows in India.

There are more than 245 million widows estimated worldwide, who are the poorest of the poor, invisible, forgotten and unheard. Many of them live in poverty and suffer dreadful prejudice and discrimination – often denied their right to inheritance, abused, isolated and pushed to the very fringes of society. And, of course, it is their children who are punished, often forced to opt out of school because of lack of money.

The proceeds from this year’s charity dinner will continue to support the education of over 3,000 children of poor widows who are currently supported by the Loomba Foundation in India.

Fashion For The Brave

The very best of British Fashion and The British Armed Forces gathered in the sparkling ballroom at the Dorchester for a fundraising evening aimed at raising £1m to support British wounded servicemen and their families.

With a diverse turnout from Shirley Bassey (gorgeous in a stunning red ensemble) and author Jilly Cooper, to Vanessa Feltz and pop artist Sir Peter Blake, the crowd gathered to witness an exclusive fashion show featuring more than 50 of the UK's leading designers, including David Koma, Victoria Beckham, Julien MacDonald, Amanda Wakeley and Stella McCartney, all styled by Hilary Alexander.

The evening, hosted by Angela Rippon OBE, included the Grand Auction which raised over £127,000 that evening alone and included very special lots such as the chance to experience a ride in the Royal Carriage escorted by Queen's full calvary around Hyde Park- a privilege only reserved for the Head Of State- or a walk on part in a Hollywood film.

Leading designers and brands took part in the show at London's Dorchester Hotel with proceeds going to Help for Heroes, The Soldiers' Charity and the Household Cavalry Operational Casualties Fund.

The show finished with a grand finale with a bespoke ball gown created by Dame Vivienne Westwood.

I had the pleasure of enjoying a memorable celebration with close friends and family for my 32nd birthday this year which was held at the glamorous Mews of Mayfair.

The centrepiece for the occasion turned out to be a stunning white chocolate extravaganza in the form of a bespoke cake created by master chocolatiers Choccywoccydoodah.

Littered with hand sculpted chocolate flowers and birds and finished in gold dust- it was a beautiful sight to behold and I am thankful for everyone who made that evening a very special night for me.

Monogrammed bluetooth headset

The lovely people at Novero sent me a surprise gift today in the form of a customised bluetooth headset from their luxury Lexington line.

Despite being hailed as an aesthetic magnet for men down to its brushed steel, piano black casing and black nappa leather casing, I find the overall design of the headset understated, sophisticated and very pleasing to the eye.

The unexpected personalisation was a lovely detail, with the emblem of the Novero Ambassadors Club, of which I am a member, etched onto the steel alongside my initials.

As a designer I have to appreciate the stunning packaging that the headset arrived in - carefully considered and laced with delightful details.

It's one way to start a Tuesday morning.

Save The Children's Founder Eglatine Jebb honoured in Addidi Inspiration Awards

Save The Children works to protect the rights of chilren around the world.

As a former Champion of the inaugural awards last year, I was pleased once more to support the Addidi Inspiration Awards which focused on outstanding women who have engineered social change.

The candidates this year were all truly remarkable including Angela Burdett-Coutts, the piblic face of Coutts in the Victorian Era, and Dame Anita Roddick DBE, Founder of The Body Shop.

The winner by a significant margin of public votes was announced to be Eglantine Jebb and her champion Maryon Stewart.

Eglatine Jebb, born in 1876, founded the Save The Children Fund in 1919 and engineered the Declaration of Geneva and Rights of the Child in 1924.

Eglatine was not a woman who took no for an answer. When she asked for help from Bishop Randall Davidson and was declined she asked for an audiences with the Pope and got it.

Save The Children is one of the most prominent children's charities operating in the world today whose work has reached over 7 million children last year.

Congratulations to Eglatine Jebb for being a truly inspiration woman.

I had not given much thought to what I would be wearing as we approached the final days towards The Sorority launch. The hours were filled with pressing demands on my attention in the run up to the big day which was turning out to be quite a grand spectacle.

I wanted to share my wonderful experience with State of Grace, a beautiful fashion house in London that offers a bespoke head to toe service.

Under the experienced and kind guidance of the style team, I was overwhelmed by the creativity and expertise that State of Grace offered as I was presented with a range of ideas and sketches of looks for my launch outfit.

I sat with Founder Lucia Silver and selected a stunning design for a dramatic coat dress with a puddle train made from black Duchesse satin with a high collar, a nod to the regal sense of the occasion whist remaining contemtporary and chic.

The team had really listened to my ideas and requirements and had come up with a beautiful vision.

The dress was made-to-measure by the State of Grace skilled team and even the initial toile was a perfect fit.

When the final day came I slipped into the dress effortlessly with admiring gasps from friends and our team.

My hair and makeup were finished by the incredibly talented Dar and Armand.

The final look was finished with some stunning vintage jewllery pieces from State of Grace coupled with my pair of Vuitton tribal platforms to add a touch of whimsical colour.

This was simply a perfect dress made especially for me and was a truly unique one-off creation.

I cannot recommend this experience highly enough to any woman seeking a truly bespoke, inspiring and beautifully crafted dress that will last a lifetime.

They're now on my speed dial.

Since having the idea about creating a club for women 18 months ago, which celebrated inspiring professional women, The Sorority launched last night.

Handmade invitations were created and hand delivered to a very secret guestlist, including the Founding Members of The Sorority.

The launch, hosted by the gorgeous Frances Card also encompassed the Founding Members Inauguration, where each woman was presented with a sterling silver Insignia by HRH The Sultanah of Pahang. The beautiful brooches were hand crafted by the same silversmiths that created artist Marc Quinn's Kate Moss sculptures.

Guests were served bespoke cocktails by Mews of Mayfair including the Snow Leopard Feline Fatale.

Over £17,000 worth of gifts were shared amongest the 70 lucky guests who each received a goody bag.

It has been a tremendous journey and we are delighted to have arrived at this point, and looking forward to many more adventures to come.

What a fabulous night! After a couple of weeks planning this supercar party, The Mayfair Hotel was laced with a rim of stunning cars on Monday night when the glam and the good turned up to soak up the rare sight of some of the world's fastest cars.

Dizzee Rascal, Goldie and Boyzone's Shane Lynch were some of the familiar faces getting in on the automotive action which included the stunning display by the worlds fastest production car, the Super ShelbyCar SSC and Bugatti Veyron.

Hosted by the London Motor Museum, a beautiful array of cars were showcased around Berkely Street attracting wide stares and curious crowds, marvelling at this unique vehicles.

Museum founder and custom-car legend Elo was busy sharing his vision with his guests over beautiful cocktails well into the night.

We are pleased to reveal a pop-up roadshow is coming to Mayfair and will be featuring some unique and rare customised vehicles, including the world's fastest production car, the Shelby Supercar SSC Ultimate Aero TT No 001 car, which features in the 2009 Gumball 3000 Rally. (Of which only 8 exist in the world)

The car's on show will be courtesy of the London Motor Museum, whose founder Elo originally drove alongside Gumball founder Maximillion Cooper in the first Gumball in 1999 along with star drivers such as Billy Zane and Danni Minogue.

A series of rare and unique customised cars from the museum's private collection will be showcased in Berkeley Street, Mayfair on Monday 26th April at 7.30pm.

This is a rare opportunity to catch a glimpse of a unique collection of cars in the heart of Mayfair as the car showcase is welcome to all, and The Mayfair Bar serves beautiful cocktails and drinks for those seeking refreshment between cars.

London Motor Museum's Founder Elo and friend, Heroes star Jimmy Jean-Louis

The London Motor Museum is home to one of the world's most unique car collections and, thanks to the forthcoming launch of the Gumball 2010 Rally in May, its charismatic founder Elo is bringing the cars for a one-time showcase in Mayfair.

Elo's Super Shelby Car TT, which featured dominantly in last year's rally, will appear with its Bugatti Veyron counterpart in the heart of Mayfair for a star-studded party later this month.

Other rare vehicles from the museum will include vintage models that will be on show off Berkeley Square.

I had the pleasure of congratulating Gurinder on the release of her new British comedy "It's A Wonderful Afterlife" which premiered in Piccadilly London last night, and stars Goldy Notay and Heroes' star Sendhil Ramamurthy.

Gurinder looked stunning having had two beauty supremos at her disposal; my dear friends, beauty guru Armand and stylist to the stars Dar, who also appears in the film as a charming speed dater. Adorable.

Leading lady Goldy wore a stunning bespoke purple dress created for her by the fabulous State of Grace Atelier, which was founded by my dear and wonderfully talented friend Lucia Silver. State of Grace is revealing a new look in the coming weeks so watch this space!

The evening was a beautiful event with genuine people with guests partying into the night at the After Party in Haymarket. Congratulations Team Chadha.

A Spiritual Lunch with Donna Karan

I joined a private women's luncheon at the Mandarin Oriental this afternoon hosted by Donna Karan and Karen Berg.

The theme of the day was "Mastering the Ultimate Challenges" and focused on bringing together high achieving women to discuss the issues that challenge us today and how to bring spirituality and balance to our lives and in business.

Donna spoke genuinely about her own path in life and the way events have shaped her journey. Her revealing insight into her personal challenges and the experiences she has gathered were moving and inspiring.

She is passionate about the role of women in the world and is also a noted philanthropist.

Her close friend Karen Berg joined her on the stage to deliver a moving address about the role of women in the world. Berg was responsible for making the spiritual teachings of Kabbalah accesible to millions of people globally and counts Donna Karan and Demi Moore as loyal friends and supporters.

Following a group meditation in the Mandarin Oriental's Ballroom (how often does that happen?) the audience were clearly moved.

We all have power within ourselves to initiate change and to grow.

We all have individual qualities we should celebrate and in our own small ways, we can make a difference.

It is meeting like-minded women such as Karan and Berg that reinforces my belief that we can all pursue a personal vision and contribute in our own way.

I founded The Sorority with this very intention, with the humble hope that one day the women we bring together will, in their own individual ways, make a difference.

As we reach the last day of the womenswear shows at London Fashion Wee,k I made my way to the morning Peter Pilotto show to support my talented friend - jewellery genuis Scott Wilson who had prepared the accessories for today's show.

Sitting alongside me in the front row were a strong presence of editors and industry insiders including Hilary Alexander, Natalie Massenet and Yasmin Sewell; a strong testimony to Pilotto's burgeoning appeal, despite a distinct lack of "celebrity" faces.

Designers Peter Pilotto and Chrisopher De Vos turn to colour references from 70s interiors of modernist architecture as the collection's point of inspiration.

The bandaged limbs of the models, courtesy of shoe designer Nicholas Kirkwood, were topped with flowing layers of silk with flashes of metallic leather panels and fur.

Pilot's ubiquitous print dresses remained a strong theme, sculpted into undulating folds of sheer fabric, softly draped across the body.

Gorgeous perpsex cuffs and belts reflected jewellery designer Scott Wilson's signature style of bold statement pieces that are going on my wish list.

I enjoyed a wonderful breakfast at Cecconi's in Mayfair with my dear friend Ching He Huang, the celebrity chef from the BBC TV series Chinese Cooking Made Easy.

We launched her website www.chinghehuang.com earlier this year and have also helped her launch her first branded range of cookware at Debenhams and exotic mushrooms with Tescos.

We both share a deep passion for food and are dedicated to promoting healthy Chinese food philosophies which we hope to perpetuate here in Europe.

Though I have yet to experiment with any of the recipe's from Ching's new cookbook, we have plans to explore some exciting new projects in 2010 which will be appetising to say the least.

Birthday celebrations Part II!

Group of friends decided to have official drinks on my birthday at Taman Gang on Park Lane.

No one had told us that on the very same evening the Drapers crowd would be hosting a fashion soiree hosted by Harold Tillman which interrupted our party when their final round of speeches were being made, creating a veil of silence across the entire venue.

However, the evening went on to be wonderfully filled with laughter and warm company, with pink mojitos all round, inspired by my delightful fashion friend Oner.

Received a lovely new copy of Harpers Bazaar hot off the press before they hit the shelves from their very own Promotions Art Director and my sweet friend Wendy Tee.

A sweet Happy Birthday message

The approach of my birthday each year always generates a polarised response. Instinctively, I veer towards a peaceful and quiet passing of the day with a silent appreciation for the year that has gone, and the year that is to follow.

However, most of my good friends would never allow this to happen and this year has proven to be no different.

A beautiful private banquet was thrown in the stunning settings of the private dining room of my favourite haunt Mews of Mayfair off New Bond Street.

I was whisked to Knightsbridge for an afternoon of pampering at Hari's Salon for a session with my beloved celebrity hairdressed Dar who worked his magic on clients such as Goldie Hawn, HRH Queen of Malaysia and Dragon's Den star James Caan.

I had the pleasure of the evening being managed by the ever efficient Caroline Whitmey, who is event planner extraordinare! A lady after my own heart whose attention to detail is flawless.

My namecard was created from alphabetic chocolate truffles, and the beautiful bespoke cake was from the marvellous Peggy Porschen.

My nearest and dearest were there to share the evening with me, enjoying temporary henna tattoos from the Guinness World Record Holder for the fastest Henna Artist.

Far from the madding crowd, I spent a lovely short break in Cap Ferrat with some wonderful friends to soak up some sun and enjoy the breathless beauty of the Cote A'zure.

We stayed in a stunning villa and enjoyed lounging by the pool most afternoons whilst the butler served up home-made mojitos.

Such days reminds one to take time to enjoy some simple pleasures inbetween our hectic lives.

I attended the Sass & Bide 10 Year Anniversay Shine Party held in London to celebrate the label's success whilst supporting Barnardos.

The event took the format of a charity auction, with 10 individuals contributing a piece of art that is inspired by the "Shine "theme. Lots included items from Misha Barton, Kate Moss, Twiggy, Rankin, Daisy Lowe, Sam Taylor-Wood and a stunning scultpure by Sass & Bide themselves which fetched £5,000 at auction.

Despite a brief temptation, the Rankin print I coveted went to another bidder at £2200.

Guests on the night included Twiggy, Henry Holland and Jodie Harsh.

The reception for the Addidi Inspiration Awards for Female Entrepreneurs was held at Trinity House on a beautiful summer's evening. With the dress code cited as "Gorgeous", I donned my favourite Donna Karan and took my tribal Vuitton platforms out for a spin.

The theme of the night was Inspiration, and the guests were reminded about the inspirational stories behind each female entrepreneur being championed that evening.

The winner of the night was announced to be Claire Bryneteson, Founder of BuyTime and champion of Hester Pinney. A little birdie told me I was behind by 40 votes, and the race had been close.

I was honoured to be able to participate in such a noble event that highlights the victories of enterprising women from history and only hoped that we have managed to inspire more women to pursue their dreams and ambitions without reservation.

Having just flown in from Singapore that afternoon I dropped into the Couture Party at boutique hotel 40 Winks in East London for an evening of fashion and style.

Greeted by hostesess dressed in Fred & Ginger lingerie, I was presented with a glass of champagne and invited into the alluring boudoir on the ground floor.

The hotel had been converted into a magical escape with each room hiding a different delight. From a portrait artist, tarot reader, celebrity hairdresser and stylists, the guests were able to reinvent themselves for one night.

Fashion photographer Marc Rogoff captured the night before we were whisked away before the stroke of midnight.

For the award, Anna Sofat of Addidi asked historian Dr Nicola Phillips to choose five ground-breaking businesswomen from history, whilst identifying five contemporary businesswomen to champion them.

I was humbled to be selected as the modern day champion for the wonderful entrepreneur Eleanor Coade (1733-1821).

Eleanor changed the whole landscape of her industry. She made a creative contribution to the world that wasn't just about numbers, but shaped an entire culture, and the future we inhabit.

She is an inspiration to modern women today.

I was fortunate to not only have been able to visit this exhibition, prior to its public launch this month before it sold out of its 14,000 available time slots, but also to have been witness to its construction and to contribute in our own small measure in the run up to its completion.

For those who are not aware, Tunnel 228 is a 'pop-up' art installation, the result of a collaboration between The Old Vic and Punchdrunk, located underground in the tunnels beneath Waterloo.

It was apparent from our first meeting with The Old Vic that this was truly going to be a very special project that brought together great art, theatre and creative thinking in a unique and original setting.

The first visit to the tunnels was in April, when the vast empty spaces would cause the slightest murmur to echo. Artists were slowly arriving week by week to begin the installation and planning of their final works which was to be revealed to the world in May.

There was already a great sense of suspense, as the vague shapes of sculptures, paintings and articulate props began to take form over the course of a few weeks.

Our studio was responsible for the design and production of the official Tunnel 228 Exhibition catalogue, the only evidence that will remain of this pop up venture once it is wound down in 15 days, leaving only its creative legacy.

I attended the Private View evening when friends and collaborators were invited to witness the final space for the first time.

These empty tunnels were transformed into a mesmerising and immersive space that inspired and touched to the core.

Arousing curiosity and encouraging exploration, the installations transported visitors to another world that was both enchanting and gritty.

Masked attendants in balaclavas were posted like silent gatekeepers around the exhibition and contributing to the sense of disconcertion.

The works themselves were engaging and memorable.

A huge amount of effort and co-ordination brought together this unique installation that will undoubtedly leave a lasting theatrical and artistic legacy for years to come.

The China Grand Prix in Shanghai took place on 19th October 2008 and I was fortunate enough to be invited to attend the races courteousy of the Renault team.

It was a remarkable experience to witness the scenes in the garage before, during and after the race. The technical expertise and precision execution required is highly impressive and it was being in the presence of the buzzing team that highlighted the true allure of F1.

We arrive in Beijing to continue the mission and make our way to London House to join a host of VIP guests from around the world to celebrate in London's creative and commercial base in China during the games.

Based on a traditional Oriental setting, the space is accurately compared to a private member's club. We even get little bowls of fish and chips being served by attentive staff during the range of events taking place this evening, including the 2012 Be A Part Of It reception with the Mayor of London Boris Johnson.

It does strike me with some amusement that when based in London my basic diet consists of sashimi and dim sum, and upon my first night of arrival in Beijing I am dining on Fish and Chips.

Aside from the challenging logistics of the curved room which resulted in a an array of bespoke hand gestures emerging to signal to the AV team, all went as well as could be expected.

It was a wonderful insight to witness first hand a fresh Chinese audience, and to engage with them about their commercial aspirations and challenges. Fostering these relationships can only lead to a better understanding for all parties in the diverse approaches to international business.

Meeting Shanghai's fashion diva

Hailed as Shanghai's answer to Galliano, Lu Kun is the young fashion guru that is on everyone's lips.

Shy and softly spoken, the designer spoke with genuine passion about his creations and his art when I met him at his studio.

He is most famed for dressing clients such as Paris Hilton for the MTV Gala Awards and styling Victoria Beckham, but Lu Kun's studio was a testimony to his creative energy and couture craftsmanship that is evident throughout the endless rails of gowns I explored in Shanghai.

This designer has a penchant for sexy silhoutettes and engineered corsetry that is aimed at true fashion divas.

Shanghai Creative Seminar

The delegation met up at 8am in the ballroom to prepare for the seminar which would present the UKTI's Design Mission to China to 80 key Chinese businesses at the JC Mandarin in Shanghai.

Having feasted on a typical Shanghainese breakfast of buns and noodles I was ready to go.

Kudos to our Chieftan Christine Losecaat who has done a stunning job to organise a great run of events for the mission.

As the Love & Money showreel played showcasing the very best of creative Britain, it was hard not to feel a sense of pride and appreciation. Living and working in the UK is a true privilige for a designer and we were here to share our creative energies with our Chinese audience.

The seminar was a wonderful success and I was truly inspired and moved by the genuine enthusiasm, warmth and hospitality we received. I had the pleasure of meeting a number of locals and there was a real sense of energy in the room.

The possibilities for the future of creative collaboration and development are endless.

And there's no time like the present to seize the future.

I will be joining a UKTI Design Mission to China as part of an official visit during the Beijing Olympics 2008 to celebrate British Design, cultivating collaborative opportunities between British design firms and Chinese businesses.

Representing the British design industry, the Trade Mission forms part of the UKTI's efforts to continue to promote British design overseas

The trip would commence with a Creative Seminar in Shanghai before culminating in a series of events in Beijing at London House during the Olympic festivities.

London House is London's official presence in Beijing for the 2008 Olympic Games and it will be am interesting experience to be immersed in the heart of British activity in China during this exciting period.

I will be speaking at London House’s Creative Day on Friday 22nd August in conjunction with a Think London reception hosted by the Mayor of London Boris Johnson.

It will be my first visit to Shanghai and Beijing and fueled by creative patriotism, I decided it was a good opportunity to adorn a reference to the Union Jack for the event.

Though there are some rather fashionable solutions available this season from the likes of Alexander McQueen and Chanel, my good friend Bridget presented the case that as a creative I should be designing my own accessories. Jolly good show.

The results are a pair Swarovski crystal shoe-boots which features elemens of the Union Jack encrusted across the heels. A truly bespoke solution that certainly beats waving a flag.
